Description
1920s-1930s Porcelain Sconces, attributed to Franklin Pottery, new wiring, good switches, mounting hardwareThese porcelain sconces are unsigned but were almost certainly made by Franklin Pottery of Lansdale, PA during the late 1920's or the 1930's. They are a very light yellow-amber in color and and have a beautiful craquelure glaze which we think is original to the sconces. Every pair of Franklin Pottery sconces that we have ever seen has had this craquelure glaze and we think it is original, but we have never found a catalog so we can't be sure.
The fixtures have been carefully cleaned, all the paint removed from the sides, and rewired The push/pull switches were also cleaned and lubricated. The switches work correctly. The porcelain covers on the switches were missing when we got them, so we replaced them with plastic ones. Even though the switches work correctly, we recommend a wall switch as the principal on/off mechanism. Switches like these are no longer made and if one breaks you have to salvage one from another fixture to repair it. Still they provide that 1920's - 1930's look, so if you are restoring an older home, these might be perfect, and the switches may last another hundred years, who knows.
The sale includes the correct mounting hardware which we made up. The original holes for mounting the fixtures were added after the fixtures were removed from the mold and they were not placed at a standardized distance apart, so the mounting hardware is unique to each sconce and that is why we have numbered them (see the last two photos) and the fixtures are ready to hang on wall. Everything has been tested and is guaranteed to work correctly.
Dimensions: 7-3/4" high (to end of knob), 4-1/4" wide, projects 4" from the wall.
