Description
Original Alabax porcelain ceiling light fixture with hand decorated white glass shade. Darker photos show fixture lighted. Alabax was a trade name for hand cast porcelain electric fixtures sold by Pass & Seymour, a prominent electrical products manufacturer of the early 20th
century. Alabax and other porcelain electric fixtures with were highly promoted in the 1930s as being more hygienic than metal fixtures and were initially promoted for use in hospitals, offices, hotels and restaurants.

This version with the original white glass shade decorated with fruits and vegetables was probably used in a grocery store or restaurant. Individual brush strokes are clearly visible in the closeup images. Paint is fired on and permanent (not cold painted).
Fixture uses one standard medium base light bulb (LED recommended to reduce heat build up). Universal metal mounting bracket included.
