Description
Antique Late 1800 Unusual DC Powered 3 Arm Iron Table Lamp.
This lamp was a barn find from an old dairy, and I think the mice ate the fabric around the wires, so it will, of course, need to be rewired. It is a DC powered lamp with three bulbs (not included) which twist in.
There are 2 different height prongs in the sockets. The body is cast iron and has a Spanish Gothic Mission style to it. We've researched and can't find anything like it.
The late 1870s and early 1880s saw electricity starting to be generated at
power stations
. This was followed by the use of low voltage direct current for indoor electric lighting in business and homes after inventor
Thomas Edison
launched his incandescent bulb based electric "
utility
" in 1882.
Farms without power would generate DC with generators.
Measures: 12” wide x 6” deep x 19-1/4” tall
