Description
Unique antique Art Deco electrified stained glass Exit signs framedin wood.
Lore is they came out of a southwestern IL rural bar and restaurant
being t
orn down a decade ago. The restaurateur had discovered them
many years prior in a warehouse of artifacts from the early 1900s.
And supposedly, from the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. He was looking
to find whatever he could to furnish his restaurant and bar spending
as few dollars as he could.
Two feet wide by 14" tall by 5' deep
Lights work. Electrical wiring and sockets might need
replacement. Won't pass code.
I provided the only bulbs I had. Different bulbs/wattage
would probably result in a better look.
Stained glass is in good condition. Two small hairline cracks
in one fixture (see photo with cracks marked. One is
3-1/2" the other 1-1/2").
All stained glass is very secure, very tight, even the two
cracked sections.
Stained glass colors: green, red, bright yellow/gold
Stained glass pieces are "leaded" in place
Wood frames are in good condition
Each fixture weighs 8 lbs. 4 oz.
Fixtures just need some TLC. Square them up, secure the
stained glass. Refinish the frames or leave them as
is to emphasize the character, "charm" and age.
If only they could tell us their history!
It is worthwhile to give these exit lights the attention needed
to "restore" them. What a great conversation piece they will
be whether used in your personal home or in a commercial
setting. Or the local bar and restaurant or local tavern.
Prefer local pickup if possible.
