Virden Art Deco 4 Slip Shade Chandelier Light
I am pleased to offer for your consideration a ca. 1930's J C Virden Claremont Series Art Deco ceiling light fixture complete with its original four early plastic ivory color slip shades. My husband and I purchased it from a very reputable antiques dealer in Hudson, New York twenty years ago. We had it rewired at that time and it hung over our dining room table for many years. A heartfelt thanks to eBayer natdoggg for taking the time to share great information regarding the maker and collection of this piece with me. Thanks to the catalog image, I now realize that when we had it rewired, the electrician reassembled it incorrectly...I always thought it didn't look quite the same when it was returned to us, but could never figure out why! (please note that supersized photo image #3 is how we used it for all those years - incorrectly😒- and supersized photo image #4 is the correct way to reassemble it😊)
The metal chromalum portions are truly substantial; the condition of the early plastic slip shades vary from piece to piece ~ from near pristine to considerable damage...I never realized that the inner metal strip that has the screws to hold the shades in place is supposed to be loosened before removing the shades to clean them - I watched my husband remove the shades correctly when he took the light apart to photograph it and the shades removed so easily...maybe in the past, other owners made the same mistake I did when removing the shades to clean them😒
