James Jones Claim
1850 - Regarding some property in Indiana that David Kelso sold to James Jones, the property was previously owned by a Col Spencer, whom the government held a judgement against and so took his land in exchange for payment, and then sold it to James Jones. But then Spencer settled up with the Treasury Department, and they gave him the land back, leaving Jones in the lurch, who now wants his money back. But the government claims it's Kelso's fault, so they deny Jones' claim, saying he should have checked Kelso out more carefully before giving him the money and trusting his word.
