    Description

    RARE!
NASA Flown Space Shuttle SSME Main Engine Turbo Spacer
This is a flown SPACER RING from an SSME (Space Shuttle Main Engine) hydrogen turbopump. Upon return to the Earth the engines are changed out and refurbished. The spacers are routinely changed out when the turbopumps are cleaned. They get inspected and flaws maybe found and the part is then scraped. This happened to be the case with this one. "The Scrap Procedure" requires that the part be milled (cut with a torch). The material appears to be INCONEL. One of the strongest alloys known to us!
It has what appears to be (laser etched?) serial numbers? and a date of manufacture 9-97? I assume that's what that is?
Spacer Ring measures 14.5 inches in diameter and 0.25 inches thick. Weight is 2.5 lbs. Will be accompanied with the paper that has the description and images of the piece. It was given to me by the NASA Shuttle Facilities Engineer that I
acquired the spacer from in 2006
    .
Not sure what STS this was flown on. Sadly the Shuttle program came to an end in 2011.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to own a piece of rare Space History!
