    Description

Pair of 1930's-1950's Virden Chromed Bath Sconces, Opal Glass Cylinder Shades, Excellent, Good wiring
This is an outstanding pair of J.C. Virden bath sconces with opal glass cylinder shades.  Virden started selling cylinder shade sconces in the 1930's and they were popular and sold into the 1950's.  We think that these are from the 1930's based on the unpolarized outlet on one fixture. Later versions had polarized, 2-prong outlets.  Regardless, they are correct for both art deco and MCM motifs.
We rewired the bulb sockets and added a grounding wire to the frames to bring them up to modern electrical standards.  We did not rewire the unpolarized outlet on the one fixture.  However, the wire going into the outlet is good and the buyer and buyer's electrician will have to decide whether to hook it up.  If you don't need it, I would not.
We carefully cleaned these fixtures, removing all of the overpaint, dirt, hairspray, etc. and added a couple coats of Renaissance wax to make the chrome plated steel sparkle.   They are in very good condition.  There are minor flaws in the plating but they are very minor.  These probably originally had a chrome plated ring that sat atop each cylinder,  but none were with them when we got them.
One thing buyer's need to be aware of is that these are only 2-1/2" wide and they will not cover the standard 4" wall box.  On the other hand, they can be mounted directly to the wall without going thru a wall switch since they have the built in rotary switches, and that is probably how they were originally installed.  If installed in a circuit with a wall switch, then the rotary switches can just be left in the ON" position.
Dimensions:  wall plate is 15" high x 2-1/2" wide; 16" high with shade in place, project 3-1/4" from the wall.  Cylinder shades measure 12" x 2".
The sale includes new 11" tubular bulbs.  We have both LED's and incandescent bulbs so the buyer has their choice.  The LED's tend to be whiter and the incandescent a little more yellow.  Also, the LED's are unfrosted whereas the incandescent are frosted, and the frosted gives a little more even light.  We have photo of the fixtures with each type of bulb: incandescent, photos #6 & #7; LED's photos #8 & #9.  Let us know which one you want, but if you don't specify which, we will send the LED's.
Shipping is buyer's choice of USPS Parcel Select, FedEx Ground, UPS Ground, or USPS Priority Mail.  They will be insured for the purchase price.   If you want to sign for them, just ask and we will specify a signature requirement.
These are guaranteed to be as described and we will accept their return if buyer is dissatisfied.  Just notify us within 30 days of receiving them.
