Description
Here we have an amazing pair of extremely large, hand crafted ~ ANTIQUE WROUGHT IRON OUTDOOR SCONCES ~ Rarely do you ever see quality Vintage hand wrought outdoor sconces that are this large, specifically designed for a large home. These sconces were acquired from Ward Canady estate in Ottawa Hills, Ohio. Mr Canady was the president of Willys Overland and headed the WWII Jeep effort to assist in winning the war. He was a Harvard graduate and built a Mansion called the Inlands in 1927. These sconces were found in the attic area of an old stone out building. Quite possibly original to when the home was built although we're not positive. They are without a doubt the nicest exterior sconces were have ever had. They are quite large very substantial at approximately 29 inches tall by 16 inches wide and extend from the wall about 24 inches. Each one WEIGHS 55 POUNDS! Wonderful hand wrought iron work and the hood on each one is a yellow metal " magnet does not stick " and we believe brass although could be copper as we see what looks like some green oxidation on the underside. There was most likely glass that has long since been broken, but the good news is flat glass is a fairly easy replacement and you can choose the texture and color of your choice. They will also need rewired and probably new sockets as well. They were obviously painted all black at some point in their life. You just can't find lighting today to match the quality and custom construction of these here. Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have and I will be happy to help! *********P.S. THESE ARE JUST TOO LARGE AND HEAVY FOR USE TO SHIP SO PERSONAL PICK UP IN TOLEDO OHIO IS REQUIRED. WE ARE RIGHT OFF OF EXIT 59 OF THE OHIO TURNPIKE AND NEAR INTERSTATES 23 AND 75 AND VERY EASY TO FIND. WE WILL GLADLY STORE THESE FOR A FEW MONTHS IF THAT BETTER HELPS YOU TO PERSONALLY COME TO TOLEDO AND PICK UP THE SCONCES. ALL WE WOULD ASK THAT YOU PAY FOR THEM AT THE COMPLETION OF THE AUCTION.Thanks! Jeff
